“The asterisk, for me, was that gender was one of the main explanations for why her case had not gotten more attention. Yes, there was no body‑cam footage. There wasn’t video of what had happened to her. I know the videos tend to get more attention because there’s more proof for people, if you will, that these kinds of things happened. But it felt like the fact that she was a Black woman was part of why people didn’t know about that case. I wanted to put it out there, which is exactly what we did. As a result, she becomes a hashtag and people start paying attention.” SS
