“There are some places that pay freelancers a standard rate (at the New York Times, for example, it’s $1/word), but I have experienced that in most cases, it never hurts to ask for more. What I’ve found to be pretty typical is 50 cents to 75 cents a word for online publications, and 1-2 dollars a word for print magazines.” SS
