TucsonCitizen.com is a local citizen journalism website launched out of the former Tucson Citizen newspaper in Tucson, Ariz.

The Tucson Citizen was shuttered in May 2009 by Gannett after 139 years of publication. Former citizen journalists Mark Evans and Ryn Gargulinski relaunched the paper’s website in July 2009 as a home for dozens of local blogs.

The site received a grant in 2009 from American University’s J-Lab to become part of its Networked Journalism Project. It used that grant to create a group of sports blogs, though most of that network was gone by 2012.
