“We have standards about when we use ‘racist,’ mostly for individual actions or rhetoric, rather than a person. But I got to be honest with you, I don’t think it’s that big of a deal. My stories very rarely use the word ‘racist.’ And I actually don’t think you need that moniker to do the work of reporting about, and writing about, even folks who are using what we would call a racist language.”
