The Carnegie Commission on Educational Television’s 1967 report established the framework for the modern system of public television and radio — and prompted the first political fights over its future.
The program, run by AIR, partners independent producers with public media stations and provides them with funding through July to cover underserved communities.
Knight, along with the Mozilla and Ford foundations, will award $2.75 million for ideas that can “strengthen the Internet for free expression and innovation.”
The new report from the Council on Foundations and the Knight Foundation says the IRS process for granting 501(c)(3) status to news organizations is “archaic” and “obsolete” and suggests fixes.
