Nonprofit news has seen an uptick in mergers, acquisitions, and other consolidations. CalMatters CEO Neil Chase still says “I don’t think we’ve seen enough yet.”
“What we often don’t think about is how tech accountability is also so many other types of coverage. It’s labor coverage, climate change coverage, healthcare coverage, criminal justice coverage, immigration coverage — I could go on and on.”
An open letter calls on the industry’s highest honors to include a new participation clause. “By implementing this new criteria, the Pulitzers would honor not only great journalism, but journalism from newsrooms willing to be accountable to the public.”
“We can make change together as opposed to trying to depend on one person to lead us all. When I think about making change that way, it becomes so much more accessible.”
